IBB Design Meet & Greet with Thom Filicia

My good friend, Interior Decorator Maria Rosso-Gibbs and I had the pleasure of attending a meet and greet event with Celebrity Interior Designer Thom Filicia. The event was hosted by IBB Design Fine Furnishings, an incredible interior design showroom located in Frisco, Texas. With a room full of designers, we mingled, enjoyed champagne cocktails and nibbles, talked decorating and shopped. We also had a chance to receive a signed copy of Thom’s latest book, American Beauty: Renovating and Decorating a Beloved Retreat and chat him up a bit. He’s such a nice guy! Check out a few photos from the event. Be sure to visit IBB Design and grab a copy of Thom’s book!

Designer Profile: Patricia Urquiola

Spanish architect/designer Patricia Urquiola lives in Milan where she runs Studio Urquiola. She has designed for some of the most renowned firms, such as B&B Italia, Padova, Agape, Kartell, Cassina, Flos and Alessi. She is also responsible for the interior design of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona and has permanent installations at MoMA in New York. Her list of accolades are massive and she has designed everything from furniture, decor and tiles to restaurants and showrooms. I am always amazed by designers like Urquiola who live to create. It doesn’t matter the object, the goal is always innovation and creating new ways of living.

Textile Designer Malene Barnett

I’m obsessed with patterns and textiles, so I was excited when a friend shared the work of Malene Barnett. Malene is a Brooklyn, New York based textile designer and the principal for Malene B Custom Handmade Carpets. Her carpet designs, inspired by her international travels and Caribbean heritage, are vibrant, artistic representations of global cultures.

I have to admit, it was really hard to choose which carpets to include in this post because I really love them all. The rich colors and unique patterns are refreshing to see in carpet designs. I’m totally inspired by her creations.

Malene’s designs take you on a journey around the world. On the left is Moorea, inspired by the Palm fronds from Tahiti and on the right is Mehndi, capturing the 5000 year old tradition of henna.

Notable photographer Todd Selby captured these beautiful images of Malene’s home. Her interior is also rich in color, texture and speaks to her travels around the world. View more photos of her home here
